The Hanen Program® for parents is a family-focused program for parents of young children with language
delays. It is based on years of research. It Takes Two to
Talk ® addresses the need for early language intervention and the
importance of parent's involvement in this intervention. Gail Engels
Barnard is a Hanen Certified Speech-Language Pathologist. Through activities
and small group discussions, parents learn to create and take advantage of
everyday opportunities to help their child communicate and use language.
This approach is personalized for each family with individual consultations
and video feedback.Who Should Attend?It Takes Two to Talk ® is recommended for parents of children ranging from non-verbal to beginning to combine words to form short sentences. |

Format and Content1. Free Orientation Meeting - provides parents with information to help them decide if the program is right for them. 2. Pre-Program Consultation - evaluates the child's communication, identifies initial communication goals, and videotapes parents interacting with their child. 3. Eight Group Training Sessions - parents learn specific strategies to facilitate their child's interaction and communication skills, and gain valuable support from other parents in the group. 4. Three individual consultations with video feedback - Parents view videotapes of themselves applying the strategies learned in the group sessions and obtain specific coaching and feedback.
